Stylish, casual outfits for your next weekend getaway

Packing for a weekend getaway? Did your bestie just call you for a last-minute road trip? While there’s nothing like a weekend escape to shake you out of your normal routine, scrambling to put together a cute outfit or two for a quick trip can be a struggle. Comfort is key when traveling, but you don’t want to sacrifice a polished look, either.

You can always buy a toothbrush if you forgot to throw it in your bag, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a pretty shirt you love as much as that favorite one you left behind. Curating a relaxed and stylish get-out-of-town-fast ensemble takes a little thought and planning. You can relax, though, because we’re here to help!

    The Basics

Stylish, casual outfits for your next weekend getaway 3

Whether you’re heading to the city, countryside, or beach, you’ll find endless combinations to create with a few simple pieces. Rustic & Refined has you covered with some great getaway basics. To start, here are six essential pieces we think every woman should include in her weekend duffel:

    • Basic tees and tops
    • An outdoor jacket or cardigan
    • Pants, shorts, or a great pair of jeans
    • Comfortable, chic shoes for long walks or a night out
    • A dress or jumper
    • Your favorite accessory to personalize your look

Using the basics as our guide, we’ve come up with some fantastic outfits to keep you comfy while looking elegant. Plus, if it’s your first time shopping with us, you can take 10% off your order.

    En Route to Your Destination?

If a train, plane or automobile ride is in your immediate future, comfort will be your priority. Layering is probably a good idea, so leggings or stretch denim are always a winner. We love pairing our white Reagan classic V-neck with staples like black leggings (try these made by Zella Activewear) or distressed jeans. The Reagan classic tee is lightweight and will fit perfectly under a cardigan or sweater when it gets cool. Our chenille Sierra front twist sweater in rose works seamlessly with leggings or jeans.

    Urban Style

Headed for the city streets? Long walks and landmark visits will likely be a part of your plan, and versatility and comfort are important, so a good pair of shoes will be essential. Classic lace-up sneakers with a neutral palette can be easily coordinated with something colorful to make an outfit pop.

Try a classic denim jacket with a short or maxi dress for an easy transition from day to night. Our Macy ruffle dress works nicely with ankle booties–like the Prenton bootie in taupe–for that dinner date you made earlier in the day. It’s long-sleeved but lightweight and ideal for spring in the big city.

A tote or backpack to carry your essentials is a great way to accessorize your look, too. That way, when you need to swap out sandals for booties or heels you’ll have them with you.

    Beach Day Basics

Spending the weekend in the sun and sand? A soft, whimsical look is ideal and will keep you cool. Start with a hat or fedora to keep your skin and eyes out of the sun (like this women’s Panama hat from J.Crew Factory) and match it with lightweight shorts, a simple tee, and some flip-flops or sandals.

If you’re planning to wear your bikini under your beach clothes, try coupling our Lauren scalloped tank with our light-and-airy cotton Marilyn striped shorts. An espadrille or sandal will complete the look, and we think the Harper sandal slide-style shoe in white is the perfect beach shoe – comfortable and elegant! It’s classy and ideal for spring and summer.

Once the sun starts to set it’s good to have a lightweight sweater on hand – because coastal breezes can make things chilly, especially later in the evening. Our Kellie sweater is made for just that. Throw it on with some skinny jeans, add in that espadrille, and you’re all set.

    Wine Country Chic

Headed to rustic wine country?  Wine tasting requires a lot of walking in the countryside (and frequently hopping in and out of a bus). Light, breathable clothes are a good bet, and you can never go wrong with a maxi dress.

Our Chelsea asymmetrical maxi in solid colors or stripes is lovely when paired with great-looking wedges like our Sydney, which features braided detail and an ankle strap. Once it gets cool, you’ll want a cardigan to throw over your dress, and we love the long cut of the Camilla. It’s soft, with two gorgeous pockets, and is flattering to any figure. Camilla fits well with almost anything and will keep you warm year-round.

Great Ideas for Any Weekend Getaway or Staycation

    Casual dressing ideas

Perhaps you’re disappearing into a hotel or spa across town but staying in close proximity to home. If you’re feeling like a quick escape, an all-in-one look for both day and night could be what you’re looking for.

One of our favorite items allows you to do just that: move between day and night without changing outfits. The Paige front-tie jumpsuit in black is elegant and comfortable; you can wear it to mimosa brunch with friends and keep it on for that dinner party you’re attending later that night! Try it with stilettos or ballet flats.

For tomorrow’s adventure, find a cute top or t-shirt and match it with jeans. We’re big on our Chloe jeans; they can be worn with any top or T-shirt in our collection and a cute pair of ankle booties. If you’d like, swap those booties out for some heels and our Lux wallet clutch in black for a night out.

For a favorite summer look that works any day or night, try our distressed jeans with the Delilah embroidered off the shoulder top and a pair of wedges. This truly classic look with pretty bell sleeves will be your “go-to” summer outfit.

Whatever your destination, it’s fun to play around with pops of bold color and accessories. Having a killer outfit game that works both day and night is never a bad thing, and a new outfit will make you feel confident, whatever your plan. Visit our website and order today!
