Planning your winter look? Here are some ideas that will help

With winter just around the corner, it’s time you started sorting out your wardrobe and made it more suitable for the upcoming season. Styling yourself in the cooler seasons is all about covering up to keep yourself warm while looking like a fashionista all at the same time.

Though most people think that appearing chic isn’t possible when you have to fight the brutal cold, it all depends on how well you coordinate your outfits.

Unfortunately, because no one is born with a sense for fashion, you have to learn a trick or two from the experts. Today, we have rounded up a couple of tips and ideas that will help you plan your winter looks.

    So, let’s begin.

    1. Have these essentials in your wardrobe

While fashion is something that’s entirely personal, there are a few items that you just can’t do without. Here’s why you should have these 3 items in your wardrobe this winter.

    Skinny jeans

Over the years, we’ve fallen in love with skinny jeans and not just because they’re a celebrity go-to. We love this piece of clothing because it is perfect for layering (more about that later) and goes with an unlimited number of outfits. Invest in a pair of black, blue, and greyish-white skinny jeans, and you’ll be amazed at what you can do with them.

    Leather jacket

Whether you admit it or not, you will need something very warm to keep you from the biting cold outside. While coats are fine when you don’t have to stay outdoors for a long time, a genuine leather jacket is essential when you plan on spending most of the day outside. Invest in a few basic colors like black, brown, and beige, and you’ll match them with virtually any outfit you select.

    An oversized scarf

Blanket wrap scarves, also known as the oversized scarves, are perfect when you don’t want to compromise on your style but also want to feel warm and comfy. They can transform the simplest of designs into something enthralling, and we love them because there are so many different ways to wear them.

    2. Say yes to layering

Layering is the answer to your prayers when you want to look fashion savvy, but don’t wish to die out in the cold either. Winter can be quite brutal in most parts of the world and if you know the art of layering, you can not only brave the cold but also look chic while doing it. Remember, the key is to play with plenty of colors, patterns, and fabrics because that is what will give your look the diversity it needs to stand out.

    3. The hat season is in

For those of you who have been dying to wear beanies again, now is the time to get them out of your wardrobe, dust them off, and give them new life.

Hats are ‘in’ this season because most of the top designers showcased some of their craziest ideas in previous season’s fashion shows. If you don’t prefer a beanie, you can also opt for wool or felt fedora which is making a comeback this winter. You can also choose from woolen mutts and caps because they look trendy and keep you safe from the cold outside. Take some inspiration from the fashion weeks, and you’ll be sure to find something you really love.

    4. Don’t be afraid of mixed prints

While too many patterns and designs in one outfit make it appear confusing and unappealing, you should be adventurous enough to try to implement some of it for your look. For instance, if you’re keeping the rest of your outfit simple, opt for a coat that has something going on because that is what will give your look the edginess it needs.

Also remember that prints look best when paired with stripes either in your skirts and pants, or your shirts and blouses. If you don’t want to take the risk with your outfit, and are afraid of a disaster, at least have a bag or footwear that grabs the attention away from the clothing.

    5. Be picky about your footwear

One of the reasons why we’re so excited about winter is because we’ll get a chance to wear our boots again. Whether you’re in love with your ankle boots or those that go over your knees, make sure you pick out ones that really complement your look.

For example, while over the knee boots are the perfect winter combination for short skirts and mini dresses, ankle boots can be ideal for outfits with jeans or jumpers. Remember, just because you have to give up on your stilettos doesn’t mean you have to come out wearing flats.

    6. Bohemian is the newest trend

If you have been following the fashion industry for some time, you’re already aware of the impact that the bohemian trend is making. Also known as boho-chic, these clothes are characterized by ethnic and hippie styles and use rich and luxurious materials.

If you don’t like the standard clothing trends and would instead do something a little more daring, this is just the style for you. But first, learn how to implement it correctly otherwise you’ll just end up creating a style that’s neither attractive nor appealing.

    7. Don’t skip out on the accessories

Finally, whatever you do, don’t ignore the accessories just because you were in a hurry to get somewhere. We’re not talking about bags, watches, and glasses, but your jewelry.

For winter, experts suggest that you wear warmer materials such as gold because these will coincide with the season perfectly. While you don’t need to glam up from head to toe, you should make it a point to wear drop earrings, a small chain, or a bracelet and know about other suitable accessories for winter.

Planning your winter look can be tough especially since stores are brimming with clothes that are fit for the season. But if you don’t want to lose your fashionista status and stay warm at the same time, you should follow these ideas and make most of them while the season lasts.
